Women's role in films have definitely changed. Women now carry franchises just like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger continue to do. Franchises such as Resident Evil and Underworld have been around for over five years and the films continue to make more money with each new release. Women have continuously become more important to the narrative in all genres, in particularly action films. Women have been receiving record amounts of monetary compensation for films in the last eight years. 2012's highest grossing film, Marvel's The Avengers, did so well among women that Marvel Studios has offered Scarlett Johansson $20 million dollars to reprise her role as Black Widow. Roles for women in film are no longer limited to the helpless victims or housewives. They are now heroes, powerful politicians, spies, war lords, and deadly housewives.
